Hall Stairs & Landing
Interior Decoration & Respray
This hall stairs and landing contains a balustrade that would be considered immensely time consuming for any decorator, no matter how experienced, the spec of which made it even more of an undertaking. Old dated brown wood stain, was about to say farewell, to be replaced with a far more modern, more pleasing, white satin, except for the new oak handrails and newel caps, to be finished in Osmo oil. So first, on with the protection of course, in this case, the carpet was to be replaced after decoration, so all borders were cut back to expose woodwork. Then preparation could begin, all the usual prep work was carried out, as well as sanding all stained thresholds back to bare, returning them to natural oak, tying them in with the newly installed oak handrails and newel caps, adding the monumental job, of intricately masking them all prior to painting. When it comes to applying coats to a handrail of this size, there is only one way to do it, spraying, a Graco 390 Classic was brought in, and used to apply the essential first coat of adhesion primer, Tikkurila Otex Akva, all other woodwork, once prepared, was given the same treatment with the Graco 390. After the first coat, the new spindles were padded of smooth, all woodwork fine filled, caulked up, and a second coat of Otex Akva applied. With the Balustrade, and all other woodwork ready to be finished, the ceilings were then Finished in Tikkurila Anti Reflex 2, for a flawless blemish free matt finish. At this point, it was time to finish the woodwork once and for all, with two coats of Tikkurila Everal Aqua 40 sprayed once again, leaving a finish unachievable by brush and roller. Onto the walls, being finished in Tikkurila Optiva 5, in the client’s choice, a modern grey from Farrow and Ball. With the main bulk of the work finished, it was time for the final touch, demasking all oak, and finishing it with two coats of Osmo Polyx oil, Clear matt. All protection was then removed, the area was cleaned and returned with pride to our lovely client.
